My prayers go out to all who've known Becky.
Becky although I had not known her a long time has/had made an amazing impact on my life in the past 6 weeks. I started Graduate classes this Summer with her and 7 other students. I was lucky enough to be placed ina group with Becky our first orientation weekend. I immediately was attracted to her personality. Becky stood out to me immediately. She loved learning. She loved teaching. She appreciated everyone's value in the room. Becky made me laugh. She encouraged me. She made me think about what larger goals I could reach that I may have let to the wayside.
Becky was all about making things happen. Following her dreams. She was all about taking something from every experience that she had. She talked about the dance studio she would be opening soon and I was so happy she was going to be able to finally do this. She had aspirations to teach special needs children through dance and her face lit up everytime she talked about it. She was proud of her children and I looked up to her for coming back to school to finish what she had started. She had a passion for teaching an ability to understand others' perspectives and an amazing ability to teach the "unteachable."
My heart goes out to her family friends and children. I cannot imagine the pain you are all going through.
I would like to offer a suggestion when the time is right that may help with the pain and suffering going on in the hearts of the family and especially her children. Last year at Alverno a school Becky seemed to be enjoying greatly I was introduced to an organization called MargaretAnne's place. Jim Henderson a professor at the college is a spokesperson for the organization and I have been to some of their charity events. They help children who have had to deal with death and dying. They do so in many ways...some being art and I believe dance. I think this would be a wonderful place to have the children get involved with. Becky loved the arts education and dance. I can't think of a better way for them to express their feelings about the pain they are going to be having from the loss of their mother. I would be happy to share more information with you or hope that you look into this at some point if not now. It might be a way for the children to deal with the pain they are going to be dealing with for a long time.
Again my continued prayers will be with you and her family. I can find comfort in knowing that Becky was a strong kind and faithful woman and pray for comfort and healing for everyone.
